We acknowledge the term 'indigenous' is broadly-used to describe the vast range of native peoples across the globe. We live and work on Turtle Island, mostly Canada, but are motivated to find community and grow our family globally.

COMPOSER FAQs

  • We offer an online catalog of music made by Indigenous composers for production purposes. (i.e. tracks made for underscore or sync).

    Production teams and editors can access this catalog online and license individual tracks directly off the site. Additionally, companies buy blanket licenses that allow them to download unlimited tracks for a production period. 

    Nagamo commissions original tracks and also hosts, non-exclusively, existing composer catalogs. 

    Additionally, Nagamo provides custom scoring work for productions and media spots. 

  • When commissioning new works, Nagamo pays upfront fees for the labor of creating and exporting. We then own the master to that track, however, the composer owns 100% of the writer's share.

    At the end of each SOCAN year, productions submit cue sheets noting all the music that was used, when/where and for how long. With funds earned from blanket license purchases, Nagamo pays out to the composer based on these earnings. Additionally, composers receive all writer share royalties via SOCAN.

  • Nagamo is mainly focused on instrumental tracks that are created with a production music format. This could mean any genre, be it cinematic/orchestral, electronic/ambient, pop, blues, or jazz, and everything else! 

    The unique quality of the Nagamo library is our blend of traditional Indigenous styles into contemporary formats. While not a requirement, we're interested in hearing Indigenous voices/instruments remixed into the track.

    ALL SAMPLES IN THE NAGAMO LIBRARY ARE ORIGINAL AND WRITERS ARE CREDITED.  Please share info about the sounds sampled in your tracks. 

    Each track should be mixed to broadcast-quality.

    • Please note that submitting to Nagamo does not guarantee inclusion in the library. 

    New submissions should be sent via an organized Dropbox folder titled, '[name] - Nagamo Submission'. Please send to Nigel Irwin - nirwin@nagamo.ca. 

    For initial submissions, a wav. or mp3 of main mixes are required. Please include Creative Title in each audio file. Please include a doc detailing samples used. Optionally, letting us know which community you're from is appreciated.
